March 2007 Volume 04 Issue 3

Hello and welcome to our March newsletter!  This month we tip our hats to Ireland, revisit some great wine, prepare for our next tasting, say hello to a new cheese in the case, and remind you of all the great gift ideas for the upcoming springtime holidays.  So, grab a glass of wine or your favorite cheese, sit back and enjoy!

Monthly Tasting!

Our next tasting will be Friday, March 30th at 5pm at

Tip-up's Tavern (formerly Bocalino's).

We will be going crazy with Merlot Madness!  The wines

will be global and the cheeses fabulous as always!

Going big in the Wall Street Journal!

Recently, Who Cut the Cheese was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal as a wine store with "shtick."  Basically, we've hit the nail right on the head, making it fun and accessible to buy wine AND to pair it with cheese!  It's a concept many retailers across the country are trying, as well as other ways to make the consumer more excited to go out there and buy wine.

According to the article (which can be found in the February 23rd edition of the Wall Street Journal), "Right now is a particularly good time be a wine lover because there are more interesting stores--and wines--out there than ever."

Other Cheesy Happenings

We will be at the Foreigner concert on Friday March 16th!  Look for us as we will be selling paninis and jetsetters.  Doors open at 5 pm at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.  See you there, and get ready to rock!

Get your green on this month for St. Patrick's day!  We will have Irish specials going on in the shop all month!  We will be featuring Irish "Car Bomb" Basket (we didn't name it, nor do we condone bombing cars, but it sure makes for a yummy shot!).  In the basket you will find Jamison Irish Whiskey, Bailey's, and a Guinness stout to create your own Car Bomb!  Here's how:  Pour half a Guinness into a pint glass.  Combine 1 oz. of Jamison, and float 1/2 oz. of Bailey's in a shot glass.  Drop the shot into the pint, and drink up quickly before it curdles!  Slainté!

Don't forget spring is just around the corner, and with it comes Easter, Mom's day and Dad's day.  "A tisket, a tasket, we have your platter or your basket!"  We're here to make YOU look good!

Last, but certainly not least, it's time for a Lambchopper Cheesetoid!  This week, Lambchopper wants to know:

Which of the following is NOT a Spanish SHEEP cheese?

a. Idiazabal

b. Manchego

c. Mahon

d. Roncal

You can find the answer at the end of the newsletter!

Snacks and Sips

The star of the show at Zinfest (our last tasting) was definitely the Russian River Zinfandel from Hartford Family Winery.  Sexy, silky, and seductive, this beauty has no overblown fruit.  A perfect balance with hints of violet, raspberry, and anise on the nose, complimented by flavors of blueberry jam and chocolate.  A steal for $33.99!

New face in the case!

Another new one for us form the fine folks at Rogue River Creamery appropriately named Rogue River Blue.  Wow!  A grape leaf wrapped blue made from cow's milk.  Has a slight floral quality to it with hints of butterscotch.  Would make a lovely pair with the Hartford Zinfandel!

Lambchopper's Cheesetoid Answer: Mahon is a cow's milk cheese!
